The Oversight Council was established in 2008 and, while the ultimate authority for the school resides with the Columbia Board of Trustees, this group is delegated by the Provost to monitor the operations and the sustainability of The School at Columbia.  The Council does not establish any policies that are inconsistent with the policies of the University/

The Council consists of twelve members appointed by the Provost.  Five members are full time faculty members, with no more than two being parents of currently or previously enrolled students.  Two members are parents of currently enrolled community students.  A full time lead teacher at the School is nominated and elected by peers.  The president of the Parent Teacher Association is a member.  Three members who are outside of Columbia University and who have no formal relationship with The School, at least one of whom will be involved in some aspect of K-12 education.
