A center for literary-based programs and school-wide meetings and events, the Library serves as a forum for grade-level activities. It supports The School’s educational programs through numerous resources and services. Librarians are responsible for student instruction in information literacy skills and have designed a curriculum that supports our integrated learning environment. We develop and promote a library collection of current fiction and non-fiction materials including audio/visual formats such as audio books and Playaways (self-playing digital audio books).  In an ever-expanding information age, learning to access information is a much-needed skill; our students learn to develop those skills using library resources.

Another core aspect of our program is developing a love of reading through author readings, Banned Books and Teen Read Week activities, and student choosing of books for mock Newbery Awards. Additionally, classes are scheduled for recreational reading time on a weekly basis.

Finally, the librarians are committed to developing a collection of grade-appropriate, multidisciplinary online databases and resources.  These include: EBSCO, KidsSearch, Primary Search, Searchasaurus, EBSCO Animals, General Science, CultureGrams, SIRS Researcher, Twayne Authors Series, World Book Encyclopedia, EASYBIB, World Folklore and Folklife etc. Student access to Alexandria, our new catalog and the databases, can be reached from home via the Internet.
