About

Community Partnerships

The School at Columbia University engages in local and national partnerships to further our mission and expand educational opportunities for our students.

Our After School Program proudly partners with numerous community organizations to teach special programs on and off site, including Bloomingdale School of Music, Breakaway Hoops, Broadway Bound, Dazzling Discoveries, FunFit Kids, Juventus Academy, NYC Guitar School, Robofun, Roll America, Sugar Hill Museum, and many more!

The Black Rock Consortium is an alliance of public and private schools, colleges, universities, and scientific and cultural institutions that pursues research, education and conservation in the 3,835-acre Black Rock Forest in New York’s Hudson Highlands. The School at Columbia University has been an active consortium member since our founding in 2003 and students visit Black Rock throughout the school year.

In partnership with the University, The School participates in clothing and supply drives for Cathedral Community Cares (CCC)a local organization committed to combatting poverty.

Our Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) partners with Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to continue to effect positive change. During Ally Week and Solidarity Week, hundreds in the school community pledge to be up-standers for others, and wear purple ribbons in support. The GSA plans anti-bullying activities leading up to the National Day of Silence, and presents to students about the silencing effects of anti-LGBTQIA+ bullying.

Students have performed for neighborhood elders through Lifeforce in Later Years (LiLY)a Morningside Heights organization dedicated to increasing visibility and resources for elders and elder care. Students make and deliver cards and seasonal gifts to local elders through LiLY and other service organizations as well.
