Annette Raphel comes with experience in both independent and public schools, most recently as Lower School Principal at Milton Academy in Massachusetts. Prior to that, she served as Lower School Division Head at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and as Curriculum Coordinator at Milton Academy. She also directed The Saturday Course at Milton Academy, a weekend program that serves students from over 100 schools in the Boston metropolitan area. Her primary interest is looking for the intersection between rigorous skill development and developmentally appropriate child centered understanding. She has a particular passion for mathematics, as evidenced by a Presidential Award for her Middle School math teaching and authorship of Math Homework That Counts as well as her work training teachers in this field. She is also an avid reader of professional research as well as children's literature. She cheerfully reports that she has come to New York after more than thirty years in Massachusetts for the job opportunity of a lifetime and is energized by and committed to the mission of our school.
